6 ways to reuse honey jars

If you’re as obsessed with honey as we are, chances are that you have a collection of glass jars collecting dust in your pantry. If you are unsure what to do with them, here are six ways you can reuse glass honey jars at home:

  1. Storing dry goods. Glass jars double up as air-tight containers that can store a range of dry goods including mixed nuts, tea bags, granola, dry lentils, beans and chickpeas, as well as sweets and other treats. And because they are see-through there is no need to label each jar. What’s more is that you can easily pop these travel size jars into a picnic basket or bring them along as padkos for your next trip.
  2. Used as a drinking glass. If you are looking to get creative for an event or party, make use of old jars as fun drinking glasses for iced-tea, punch or cocktails. Top it off with some fruit or pop in a cocktail umbrella to add to the festivities. Here is a recipe you can try. The best part? It includes honey.
  3. Pickle vegetables. Spice up sandwiches and salads, or simply enjoy as a snack. Pickling vegetables like onions, peppers, carrots, cauliflower, mushrooms – the list goes on, is an easy way to experiment with flavours and texture no matter how you prefer to enjoy it.
  4. Store home-made dressings. Shake things up with a versatile dressing that can accompany just about any dish. The benefit of a glass jar is that you can easily see when a dressing needs to be topped up or mixed. The airtight seal will also result in a longer lasting dressing. Here is an easy recipe containing some of our favourite ingredients.
  5. Create a small herb garden. Nothing compliments a dish or festive drink quite like a fresh herb. Use your honey jars to grow some essential herbs like mint, parsley, thyme and basil. Place your fresh herbs on a windowsill to liven up your kitchen and add a lovely aroma.
  6. Entertain guests at dinner. If you’re looking for a creative way to dress up your dinner table, glass jars are just the trick. You can use them to store knife and fork sets or napkins, or place a scented candle into the jar to add a calm ambience.
